Exhibition origin story

When I first became injured, outside of medical interventions, and due to the complexity of my condition – I was consistently prescribed nature, sunshine and art.
Art was an unexpected therapeutic recommendation – and a true gift to me, as an artist.
Nature and sunshine offered a place for rest, reflection and healing, but art – this recommendation was unexpected! – and a true gift to me, as an artist. I embraced making, gravitating towards media that I felt physically comfortable working in, being fire, metal and jewellery.
Art helped with my rehabilitation and symptom management, and gave me tangible goals to aspire to.

It offered a place for my neurorehabilitation, it helped with symptom management, gave me tangible goals to aspire to, and my favourite – presented me with an abundance of joy.

Making beautiful objects presented me with an abundance of joy.
As my journey progressed, I very slowly returned in small parts to my previous career in curation, building SICK AF from the floor of my art studio/ office/ healing zone. Working alongside the incredible humans in SICK AF – artists and storytellers – as they shared their story, I saw the commonalities between what making art brings. These benefits of art often living in the process of making itself.

Whilst being life alternating and taking daily grit and persistence – the heart of this journey is about finding your beacon of light and shining meaning into your life.
